Mary Beth Wallace
Coordinator of Academic Advising
"If you think about all of our collective efforts and of how much we can accomplish together... There's a lot of opportunities working at a University, a lot of different ways that we can help each other...the Faculty & Staff Campaign is just one of those ways."
Mary Beth Wallace has worked at USF Sarasota-Manatee for about 10 years, a place she feels that people come together as a team to get things done, a place that provides opportunities to get involved with a variety of things. For Mary Beth, the Faculty & Staff Campaign for the University of South Florida is an example of that environment, "I was asked to be the Chairperson for our campus, and I was a bit surprised because I just never thought of myself in assuming that role, but I think that really speaks a lot to the opportunities that you have on this campus, that you do get involved in a lot of different things...".
Giving to USF did not come as a surprise for Mary Beth; giving is something that she is very accustomed to, "Giving has always been a part of my life...to have that collective effort to give to others, it has been something that has been a part of my family, and it is something that I have also tried to instill in my own children. I just feel that it is important reason of why we are who we are."
Personally, Mary Beth feels that the giving process can be fun because not only do you see the results of your giving, but you get to select which fund to support, "I tend to try and find something that either student or staff are going to be able to gain from, something that is in our area here of Sarasota-Manatee...I give to the area where I feel that the most need is. It is fun, now that it is online, you can search around and see what opportunities are out there...sometimes you get interesting feedback from others, that they are passionate about something, and that can be an idea of something to give to in the future."
The new Campus Center has been a highlight of giving for employees at Sarasota-Manatee, and as Mary Beth says, "When you do come into this building now, and you see that it is actually, really here, and something that we had thought about for so many years, it really is exciting Gifts rom faculty and staff contributed to the success and completion of the Center, which serves as an example of how giving can make a difference. "If you think about all of our collective efforts and of how much we can accomplish together it's a really neat feeling to think about what we can do?we can help to build a building, to create an area where faculty, and staff, and students can get together, or we can help someone going back to school...there's a lot of opportunities working at a University, and there's a lot of different ways that we can help each other...the Faculty & Staff Campaign is just one of those ways."
