The University of South Florida School of Public Affairs oversees two public policy internship programs for USF students interested in policy issues facing Florida. The Legislative Internship Program (LIP) offers students placement in the offices of federal, state and local legislators or think-tank/policy agencies. The Tallahassee Internship Program (TIP) offers students placement in the office of an elected official, professional association or private firm that develops and researches issues addressing Florida state policy. Led by Angela Crist, Director of the USF Florida Institute of Government, both of these internship programs enable students to develop new knowledge, skills and competencies by gaining access to and experiencing the political process first-hand.
In preparing students to be future leaders as well as helping improve the quality and effectiveness of government in Florida, there is a need for additional funding that provides the added level of excellence to support these programs. This includes student scholarships and funds that enable our students to conduct these worthwhile community projects in a professional and meaningful manner.
